Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the Most Expensive Footballers

Born on 5 February 1985 on the Madeira Island of Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro was transferred to Real Madrid with a record transfer fee of 100 million Euros in 2009.

Before being a professional, Ronaldo played in Andorinha, CD Nacional and finally in Sporting Lisbon youth team. When he was playing in the Portugal national team for 16 under attracted the attention of the football administrators. Starting his professional career again in Sporting Lisbon, young footballer played in Manchester United from 2003 until 2009. At the end of 2008-2009 season, he was transferred to Real Madrid FC. Ronaldo was a fan of Benfica when he was a child. When he was 8, he was playing in the amateur Andorinha FC where his father was working as a ball boy. Then Ronaldo executed an agreement with C.D. Nacional FC in 1995 and after succeeding in a title competition he went to Sporting Lisbon for a trial for 3 days. Sporting FC added Ronaldo to its colors with an agreement but the transfer fee was never announced.

Ronaldo attended Alcochete football school where the young footballers were trained. He was the first and only footballer that played in Sporting U16, U17, U18, B team and A team in one year. He shot two goals to Moreirense FC, which was his first match. Besides, he was playing in the European Football Championship for under- 17s. When Ronaldo was 15, he was diagnosed with a heartbeat that might force him to quit football. The authorities of Sporting FC were informed of the situation and his mother gave her consent for Ronaldo to be hospitalized. When he was in the hospital, the part that was causing that heart problem was burnt by means of a laser operation. He was operated on in the morning and discharged from the hospital in the afternoon. He went on with his trainings only a few days after the operation. When he was 16, he was recognized by Gérard Houllier, then the technical director of Liverpool, but Liverpool rejected Houllier’s suggestion deciding that he was too young and he should improve his skills. In 2003, during the opening match of Estádio José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon when Sporting Lisbon won against Manchester United with a score of 3-1, Ronaldo attracted the attention of Alex Ferguson, the technical director of Manchester United. Ronaldo’s performance impressed the Manchester United football players, as well and asked Alex Ferguson to transfer Ronaldo. In his interview on 2 April 2008, Johan Cruyff, who won Ballon d’Or award for three times, said, “Ronaldo is even better than the two best football players of Manchester United: George Best and Denis Law”.

Ronaldo was the first Portuguese footballer of Manchester United. He was transferred for 12.24 Sterling Pounds after 2002-2003 FA Premier League season. He preferred wearing the jersey numbered as 28 because he wanted to refrain from the stress that might be caused by the expectations of number 7 jersey worn before by footballers such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

Being one of the best footballers of the world,   a laboratory was created on the green lawns where the cutting edge technology products existed in order to find out the features that made Cristiano Ronaldo different from other footballers. In the tests applied in these laboratories, limitations of Ronaldo’s football intelligence, technic and the physical strength were forced and the things that make this Portuguese footballer far more different from the others were displayed. This extraordinary test provides us some special information on why he is the best footballer among his generation.

Faster than a splinter

In the first section of the test the body strength of Ronaldo, one of the fastest footballers of the green fields, was tested. A running and slalom tracks of 25 meters each have been formed in the environment and he was competed with Angel David Rodriguez, 100 meter splinter of Spain. In the 25-meter ordinary run Rodriguez completed the track only 0,3 seconds before Ronaldo. In the25-meter slalom run, Ronaldo completed the track 0.5 seconds before the famous splinter.

Almost a magician

Ronaldo’s technic in hitting the ball was transferred to the computer environment with special devices. In this test where Ronaldo’s ball bending was examined, it was found out that the shoot that went off Ronaldo’s foot caused the ball to go 3 meters further than the place it should normally go and reached the goalposts. It was realized that as a result of kicking the ball right in the middle with a point of foot that is close to the ankle prevents the bend from being followed and the ball is driven away unexpectedly to the right-left or up-down and this confuses the goal keeper. Therefore the kick results in a goal.

As clever and swift as a panther

Another feature that distinguishes him from other footballers is the speed of the shoots. Ronaldo can reach a speed between 130 and 150 with his shoots. Besides, his ability to make 18 different body movements in 8 seconds in order not to give the ball to the rival, turning the crosses made in dark into goal and moving on a track of 25 meters faster than the sharpshooters, being caught once only displays us his football intelligence and agility.
